Bob Pond - Atom Lure Co.

Bob Pond started Atom Lures back in 1944. He had been successful using a Heddon plug he found and decided to craft his own. His Atom to this day may have caught more bass than any other lure. It a cow catcher for sure, and one of my favorite style plugs. This winter I plan on making thirty Atom 40's in Bob Pond's honor.

In 1965 Bob founded Stripers Unlimited after realizing what man had done to the stock. I got the chance to thank him when I met Bob at the RISAA 2007 show.

Bob ran Atom until 1998, when he sold the company. Atom lures are still being made and catching fish.

The wooden Atoms where only made from 44-48. After that due to shortage of wood & other reasons Bob switched to plastic. It is these Atoms that are a collectors jem. I do not own one, but I am lucky enough to own the Hab-A-Tat Atom 40 pictured below. I have also made two in wood from NJ tackle Kits that I fish.
